Short Essay Questions

How might convergence affect the production, distribution, marketing and exhibition?

Production - Converhence can affect the production of a product (film) being released because it is easier for the audience and the public to get their own hands on the film material such as downloading from the internet from websites such as Youtube, or buying 'Pirate' DVD copies.
Distribution - It can affect the distribution also throught the internet because this presents the chance for their to be a global audience as all of us can access the internet and research the comapnies etc. This is also a good opportunity for smaller companies, as the research helps the smaller companies as well as the larger companies who can be easily recognised suh as 'DreamWorks SKG'.
Marketing - This can be used as a main factor for marketing the film as the convergence of internet sites and the film presents a chance for global advertising to all countries. Another factor for marketing using convergence is mobile phone technologies, as this becomes more popular things such as ringtones that are associated with the film are a key marketing tool as it is so popular with so many people.
Exhibition - People are becoming more and more likely to view the film online as it is cheap and easy to download. The cinema is becoming increasingly expensive, and it is more comfortable for people to watch it in the comfort of their own home. A main reason why people also download is because it is a big gap between the film being shown in a cinema and being released on DVD, so instead of waiting they download instead.
