Short Essay Questions

How might convergence affect the way audiences ‘consume’ films?

Being able to watch film's online is main factor of convergence between the film industry. We are able to view film's for free from different clips on sites such as Youtube, or even download the whole film for free from interent programmes. This is an incredibly cheap and comfortable way for the audience to view a film in their own home. Otheriwse they would have to go to a cinema and pay for the viewing or buy the DVD, many people wouldn't know any different from these to methods, but as times move on people want to have cheap viewing in comfortable conditions.
Another way convergence affetcs the way we consume films is through the production of 'Pirate' DVD's which are illegal and not in high quality but people watch and purchase them for the same reason becasue they are cheap and are able to watch in their own comfort.
There is also Blu-Ray DVD's which are produced to be clearer than normal DVD's and make better viewing for the people at home. They are more expensive than normal DVD's but people feel they are worth it for the higher quality, and as they have spent the money on the Blu-Ray player, they should spend the more money on the Blu-Ray DVD's to get their money worth.
The in internet also provides another chance for convergence when they sell cheap DVD's online on retail websites that anyone can access, and again this process is cheap and easy, some people like this method as they can get DVD's without leaving their own house but still the same good quality as it is still the same quality DVD they would buy in the shops!
